Kinda Pregnant. How does that work?

Amy Schumer at a prenatal talk in Kinda Pregnant

Last night I watched Kinda Pregnant on Netflix. Spoiler alert Amy Schumer’s character isn’t pregnant! 🙂

Amy’s character has always dreamed of being a Mum, and when her best friend gets pregnant she kind of loses it, wanting to be part of it she pretends to be pregnant to people she doesn’t know. She gets such amazing reactions that she keeps up the charade until she gets busted.

Kinda Pregnant is supposed to be a comedy, well is a comedy, but it also looks at that side of life where your best friend has everything you think you’ve ever wanted and how you cope with it. It was laugh out loud funny once or twice, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you really want a baby.

The movie tries to make out that being pregnant is not all it is cracked up to be, focusing on the cracked nipples, being sick, fat ankles etc, without realising that maybe those are not seen as negative by people who REALLY REALLY want a baby.

It is interesting that it portrays people being kinder to pregnant ladies, congratulating them, giving up seats on the train, and smiling at them. Which is all reinforcing the view that Amy’s character has that being pregnant is something she wants. I guess to make it into a comedy movie you need to over-exaggerate things that happen, but this is also a sensitive topic for many of us, those who are too old, who are trying, who have tried and for it to be turned into a comedy could be a bit too much to bare.

It is light-hearted if you are past wanting a baby, but if you aren’t I wouldn’t watch it, you may find it is a little too close to home. Would I watch it again? No, it wasn’t that good, so you really aren’t missing out to much.

Sending positive vibes your way and if you see it tell me what you thought.
