Frequently Asked Questions
Do the tests work?
Yes! Pregnancy tests are regulated by the government in each country and we have to produce documentation such as clinical test results to prove that the tests work as they should before we can get approval to sell.
Are the Hoopsy tests as good as Clearblue/First Response or another brand?
YES! Our tests have over 99% accuracy when used on the day that your period is due, this is the same as ALL other pregnancy tests that are sold in the world.
I am not sure that my test gave me the right result…
Through user testing we have found that you need to wee on the test for about 10 seconds, so slightly longer than it says in the instructions in the pack. If you are finding that the test results area has nothing showing on it then we suggest that you wee on it a bit longer.
I am not sure what my result says…
Yep it is tricky, if you aren’t sure please do WhatsApp us on +44 7749 702825 with a photo of your test result and we will check and come back to you.
Why isn’t there a 1 pack?
Good question, originally we were going to produce a one pack, but then thought that actually considering that most women use more than 1 test each time they test and the waste in terms of materials for a 1 pack we decided to make the smallest pack a 2 pack.
How long after unprotected sex should I take a pregnancy test?
You should take a pregnancy test about 14 days after unprotected sex or the day that your period is due if that is sooner, for the most accurate result. Testing completed earlier than this could lead to a false negative.
How long does a pregnancy test take to show results?
The Hoopsy eco pregnancy tests show results in 5-10 minutes depending on how diluted your urine is. How long does a pregnancy test take to show results can vary, often you will get the results in less time.
What liquid turns a Hoopsy pregnancy test positive?
Only urine containing the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) will turn a Hoopsy pregnancy test positive.
Can you take a pregnancy test on your period?
Yes, you can take a Hoopsy pregnancy test while on your period – and it will still be accurate if used correctly. Here’s why: Pregnancy tests detect the hCG hormone in urine, not blood. Menstrual blood does not interfere with hCG detection. If you’re pregnant, even if you think you have a period, the test will usually still show positive. Whilst relatively rare, you can still have a period whilst pregnant.
Can a pregnancy test be positive at 2 weeks?
Yes, a pregnancy test can be positive at 2 weeks, but it depends on what you mean by “2 weeks”. If you test on the day your period is due, that will usually give you a positive result if you are pregnant.
Does an ectopic pregnancy show on a pregnancy test?
Yes, an ectopic pregnancy usually shows up as positive on a pregnancy test, including Hoopsy’s tests. This is because an ectopic pregnancy (when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube) still produces hCG, the hormone that pregnancy tests detect.
How accurate is Hoopsy pregnancy test?
The Hoopsy pregnancy test is over 99% accurate when used from the day of your expected period. It performs just as well as leading pregnancy tests, such as Clearblue and First Response, but is more sustainable.
Are paper pregnancy tests accurate?
Yes, paper pregnancy tests can be very accurate – over 99% accurate when used correctly and at the right time. The Hoopsy paper-based tests perform the same as traditional plastic tests when taken from the day of your expected period. They detect the hCG hormone in your urine, just like plastic tests. Paper tests (like Hoopsy) are more eco-friendly because they reduce plastic waste.
What should I do after a positive pregnancy test?
If you get a positive pregnancy test, here’s what you can do next:
Take a deep breath: It’s normal to feel a lot of emotions, whether excitement, nervousness, or surprise.
Confirm the result: Take a second Hoopsy test to be extra sure. Our tests have minimal impact on the planet, so there’s no need to feel guilty about wanting certainty.
Doctors: Depending on where you live, you may need to book a doctor’s appointment. In the UK you need to register online here once you have a positive result. Your doctor will confirm the pregnancy with a blood test and possibly an early ultrasound.
Understand your options: If the pregnancy was unexpected, know you have time to explore your choices (parenting, adoption, or termination) with support.
Start prenatal care: Begin taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid if you haven’t already. Discuss lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, medications) with your doctor.
Look after your health: Avoid alcohol, smoking, and high-risk activities. Focus on rest, hydration, and nutritious food. Stay connected with friends, family, or a trusted support network.

Can I recycle the Hoopsy test?
Hoopsy tests are made out of paper, you can recycle half of it – the half that you hold when you use it. Unfortunately the end that you wee on can’t be recycled as you can’t recycle things with body fluids on them. Hoopsy tests cannot be reused after use.
Can I recycle the Hoopsy packaging?
Yes, all Hoopsy packaging is designed to be recycled. The pouch needs to be recycled in soft plastics, the envelope can be recycled with paper. All countries and cities have different recycling programs and rules, so it is best to check with your local providers if unsure.
Why is the test in a plastic pouch?
Such a good question, and we wish it wasn’t. The pouch needs to keep moisture away from the test otherwise it doesn’t work. I have looked and looked and so far have not found a material that will work and keep the tests dry for 3 years, which is how long they last from manufacturing. I am trying to find an alternative material, watch this space.
When are your ovulation tests available?
Hoopsy’s ovulation tests are available for purchase in UK and Europe at wholesale or private label, but there is a minimum order quantity of 60,000 tests.
Where are your tests made?
The tests we have available to the UK and Europe are made in China. The tests we are working on for the USA market will be made in the USA.
What is the shelf life on the Hoopsy tests?
All our tests start with a 3 year shelf life. If we are custom-making them for you, then they will arrive with around 2.75 years on them. If your order is from stock we currently have, please check with us if you are concerned, but we don’t send out any retailer orders with less than 12 months shelf life.
