If you are a fan of the Hoopsy eco pregnancy test, there’s a good chance you might be someone who, like us, tries to make environmentally conscious decisions about the products they purchase. We love that our product has the potential to hugely reduce the number of pregnancy tests that end up in landfill, and we wanted to take a few moments to look at and recognise some other awesome eco-friendly products that are now available that are also environmentally friendly:
1. Period Pants
Did you know those single-use menstrual products generate over 200,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually in the UK alone? Plus, to add to that, most pads are made from plastics that can take literally hundreds of years to break down.
Now, obviously, we need our sanitary products, but just like with our eco-pregnancy test, there is a less harmful way. One that I’ve personally found absolutely revolutionary is period pants. If you haven’t tried any yet, these are essentially just like a normal pair of knickers, except they have a built-in pad that cleverly absorbs your flow. They come in a range of absorbancies from light to super heavy flow to suit your cycle. They don’t leak, itch or smell and are super simple to look after. You can read more about how period pants work here. And if you haven’t already, I recommend giving them a try.
2. Solid Soaps and Shampoos
Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of plastic waste generated by all those liquid soap and shampoo containers? To be fair, until recently, I hadn’t either. The number of containers thrown away globally yearly is a jaw-dropping 80 billion! It’s no surprise that a number of brands are now offering solid alternatives to liquid products. Switching up has some major benefits.
Firstly they can hugely reduce the amount of packaging we discard. Some bars come with just a small amount of recyclable cardboard packaging and break down much faster than plastic. Additionally, solid products weigh less than liquid alternatives and take up less space when in transit, meaning they save on emissions.
3. Reusable Make-Up Pads
In my opinion, this is another super easy swap. I previously used face wipes to remove my makeup at the end of every day. Unfortunately, both beauty and baby wipes are not very good for the environment. Until I looked into it, I didn’t realise they contained plastic and, if flushed, can take up to 100 years to biodegrade and have a disastrous impact on marine life.
Reusable, washable make-up pads are soft and simple to use and can be popped in the washing machine on a normal washing cycle. Find out more here.
Conclusion
These are just three examples of products out there that offer an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional disposable products we are all so reliant on using. If you haven’t already, consider making a switch next time you buy a sanitary product, replace your shampoo or when you next need to stock up on pregnancy tests.
Our Hoopsy pregnancy test is made from 99% paper, is over 99% accurate and is 50% recyclable. When you consider that the plastic pregnancy tests we have always used take 20-30 years to break down in landfill and offer no real benefits over a Hoopsy test, we think it’s a switch worth seriously considering if you are looking for eco-friendly products to add to your routines.
