Do you ever feel that trying to conceive is rather like getting married when it comes to products? There seems to be something for every occasion in the bid to take your money… I have to admit that I thought the Mama Body Fertility Tea might be one of these (sorry Mama Body). In this post, I shift through the tea to find out if it is something that you should invest in…
First up let’s look at the ingredients – chaste berry, raspberry leaf, Dong quai root, Shativari root, Tulsi and Skullcap.
Raspberry Leaf
This is thought to relieve symptoms of PMS, menstrual cramps and contains antioxidants that help protect cells from damage. (source: Healthline)
Dong Quai Root
Dong Quai is an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat menstrual cramps and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. (source MSKCC)
Shativari Root
This has been used by Ayurvedic healers for centuries for women’s health in particular reproductive and hormonal problems. According to Organic India, “Shatavari can be used throughout each phase of womanhood, from helping to regulate the menstrual cycle to helping increase female fertility and aiding during pregnancy and beyond. Shatavari benefits for women include increased breast milk production, nourishing the reproductive organs, strengthening female fertility, and providing nourishment to the mother and fetus during pregnancy. It has even been linked to stabilizing one’s mood and emotions during the menstrual cycle.”
Tulsi
Is from the basil herb family, and has many healing properties including reduced stress and blood pressure and is a natural immunity booster (source: Pharmeasy) so you can see why it would be included in a fertility tea.
Skullcap
This herb is from the mint family and is used to treat anxiety, stress, and insomnia (source: NCBI) and basically helps you to relax – probably good given all the pressure we put on ourselves….
What The Reviews Say
This is a review from the Mama Body Tea site, the most common feedback on the tea is how much it has improved drinkers’ cycles, reduced period pain, and improved an overall feeling of wellness.
Final Say
Personally, I believe that herbs can make a difference to your body, through first-hand experience, admittedly not a fertility tea, and therefore would keep on drinking it. Although I wouldn’t just rely on the power of the tea… I think when it comes to fertility you need to throw everything you’ve got at it, so have a chat with your GP or fertility specialist about what else you can do for your fertility 🙂
Depending on whether you agree with the power of herbs or think that it is a load of hokey pokey there are other benefits to drinking fertility tea such as
- A relaxing ritual
- It increases your water intake
- Lowers your caffeine intake (if you replace your coffee with it)
I’d love to hear your thoughts if you have tried a fertility tea, if you haven’t and want to give it a go you can buy the Mama Body Fertility Tea right here 🙂
